CDH1 Fundraiser

In April of this year I was tested positive to be a carrier of the CDH1 gene mutation, which my beautiful mother was also a carrier of and passed away on December 5th 2014. As a carrier of the CDH1 gene, you are at a high risk of Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer and also lobular breast cancer. If you carry this gene mutation then each of your children will have a 50% chance of inheriting the CDH1 gene.
To date, the only preventative measure for this type of gastric cancer is to have a prophylactic (preventive) total gastrectomy – basic terms: Complete removal of the stomach. I made the decision to undergo this procedure in June of this year. (2015)

Our aim now is to educate and raise awareness of the CDH1 gene and the affects it can have on the carriers as well as their loved ones.

After making contact with Professor Guilford (the Professor who discovered the CDH1 gene mutation) We have decided to raise funds for Te Aho Matatu – the Centre for Translational Cancer Research based at Otago University as they fund his research into finding an alternative treatment to the CDH1 gene mutation. We have decided to sell t-shirts to raise funds and also to raise awareness. We will be asking everyone to wear his or her t-shirt on Saturday 5th December (mum’s anniversary). On this day we will also ask that everyone takes photos of themselves and family in the t-shirts and post online with #CDH1 to raise awareness of the gene.

We have attached 2 images of the t-shirt – note: I am wearing a size M ladies and Sheldon is wearing a size M Men’s. We will be placing a bulk order of t-shirts in the next 2 weeks and we are now taking pre-orders. T-shirts are $15 each for adults and $12 each for children + postage fee (we will organize for a pick up option in the Gold Coast and also in Porirua, NZ) with all profits going to the CTCR. Sizes available are Ladies – S, M, L, XL, 2XL and Men’s – S, M, L, XL, 2XL, and 3XL. Youth and Toddler sizes also available. If you are interested in purchasing t-shirts, please email us on mummywithnotummy@gmail.com with your quantity, sizes and your email address. If possible, please have your pre-order in by Friday 9th October.

Once orders have been received via email, we will send an invoice with bank details to make a direct deposit or arrange payment via PayPal (online payment). We expect an approx. 4-6 week turnaround and would hope that everyone will receive his or her t-shirts by mid November at the latest, in preparation to wear on the 5th December smile emoticon
